Hoops+Health Basketball Festival 2025: Fostering Youth Wellness Through Basketball
On 5 July 2025, the Basketball Festival, a highlight of the Hoops+Health 2025 Programme, took over the renovated Kuala Ampang Basketball Court. This vibrant event, proudly hosted by Sun Life Malaysia and Beyond Sport, was held as part of our 2025 court refreshed sponsorship — bringing a day of action and youth wellness to life.

The event tipped off with a dynamic basketball clinic tailor-made for our young hoop heroes, aged 6 to 11, from the Nicol David Foundation. They bounced, dribbled, and shot their way into a fun start to the sport. Then, the court heated up with an exciting tournament for the aspiring players aged 10 to 17 from the USJ20 Basketball Club and Jungle Cats Basketball Academy, where these emerging stars showcased their teamwork and confidence.

Beyond the intense friendly mini-tournaments, participants and community members also enjoyed mini basketball games, mask colouring and health checks. It was a perfect blend of play, wellness and creativity!

This festival was a massive shout-out to Sun Life's dedication to tackling physical inactivity among Malaysian youth. Led by Sun Life Asia, the Hoops+Health programme is on a mission to get 45,000 young people active by the end of 2025 – bringing to live its bigger purpose of helping people live healthier lives.

A heartfelt gratitude to our Sun Lifers and our partners - Beyond Sport, USJ20 Basketball Club, Nicol David Organisation, and Jungle Cats Basketball Academy for making this event a success and inspiring a healthier future for the next generation.

2025 Financial Resilience Index Revealed Malaysians Are Facing Inflationary Pressure
Sun Life Malaysia’s 2025 Financial Resilience Index, part of a regional survey led by Sun Life Asia, offers fresh insights into how individuals are coping with rising financial pressures. The study gathered responses from over 6,000 people across Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

In Malaysia, the findings reveal that 92% of respondents are feeling the pressure of inflation, with 62% prioritising day-to-day expense management and 41% focusing on building emergency funds. These shifts signal a growing awareness of financial vulnerability and the need for better financial planning.

The survey also found that Gen Z Malaysians feel the least financially secure, and while many are actively seeking help, not everyone is turning to the right sources. On the other hand, the most financially resilient respondents were those who sought guidance from professional financial advisors, highlighting the long-term value of expert support.

These insights reinforce Sun Life Malaysia’s commitment to improving financial literacy and access to advice, enabling more Malaysians to take confident steps towards long-term financial well-being.
