Sun Life Malaysia Expands InsureLit Youth Programme to Equip 800 TVET Learners with Practical Financial Skills for Future Workforce Readiness
31 Jul 2026
Held in collaboration with AKPK and JPPKK, the programme supports Malaysia’s future Technical
and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) workforce by strengthening financial literacy,
protection awareness and long-term financial resilience among youth.
Kuala Lumpur, 31 July 2026: Sun Life Malaysia, a life insurance and family takaful company, in
collaboration with the Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) and Jabatan Pendidikan
Politeknik dan Kolej Komuniti (JPPKK), today launched the third edition of its InsureLit Youth
Programme, expanding its reach to 800 polytechnic students across the Klang Valley.
Now in its third year, the programme is part of Sun Life Malaysia’s InsureLit Campaign, which was
introduced to strengthen Malaysians’ financial know-how, particularly in financial protection awareness.
Since its launch, the programme has directly impacted school children to university students, and now
to polytechnic students, reflecting Sun Life Malaysia’s continued effort to broaden access to hands-on
financial education across different learning pathways.
This year’s programme will engage students from Politeknik Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Politeknik Banting
Selangor and Politeknik Metro Kuala Lumpur through a three-stage learning journey, running from July
to September, that combines face-to-face workshops, interactive board game sessions, online
assignments, gamified learning and a virtual hunt. The initiative is designed to equip students with
practical financial knowledge, protection awareness including takaful and waqf concepts, and decision
making skills as they prepare to enter the workforce.
To further encourage participation, the programme will award RM3,000 to the top team, RM2,500 for
first runner-up and RM2,000 for second runner-up, with a total prize pool of RM11,250 to support
students in taking their first steps towards financial planning.
The expansion to polytechnic students reflects the growing importance of financial literacy as a life skill
for Malaysia’s future TVET talent. According to the National TVET Council, TVET enrolment stood at
459,558 last year, reflecting the growing recognition of TVET as a viable and increasingly preferred
education and career pathway among young Malaysians.
As the nation continues to strengthen its technical and vocational education ecosystem to support high
growth and emerging sectors, TVET learners will need not only technical capabilities, but also the
confidence to manage their finances, protect themselves against financial risks and build long-term
resilience.
Speaking at the programme’s opening session at Polytechnic Banting Selangor,
Azam Yusof, Chief
Executive Officer of Sun Life Malaysia Takaful, said: “Financial education should reach every young
Malaysian, regardless of their educational pathway. By bringing the programme to polytechnic students,
we are supporting the development of a more future-ready TVET talent pipeline. Beyond technical and
vocational skills, students also need practical financial knowledge to manage their income, understand financial protection, navigate risks and build the confidence needed to participate meaningfully in the
workforce and entrepreneurial economy.”
Azman Hasim, Chief Executive Officer of the Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK)
said: “Financial capability is a critical life skill that should be nurtured from an early age. As young
people face increasingly complex financial decisions involving digital transactions, credit, fraud risks
and income management, it is imperative that they are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills
to make informed and responsible financial choices. Through this collaboration with Sun Life Malaysia
and JPPKK, AKPK remains committed to advancing financial literacy and empowering more youths to
build healthy financial habits, strengthen their financial resilience, and achieve greater financial well
being throughout every stage of life."
Ts. Ibrahim Bin Burhan, Director of Politeknik Banting Selangor said: "Preparing students for the
future goes beyond equipping them with technical knowledge and industry skills. Financial capability is
an equally important life skill that enables young people to make responsible financial decisions and
navigate an increasingly complex financial environment. This collaboration with AKPK, Sun Life
Malaysia and JPPKK complements our efforts to produce graduates who are not only career-ready, but
also financially resilient."
Since its launch in 2024, the InsureLit Youth Programme has reached more than 1,000 school children
aged 9 to 11 in its first year, before expanding to over 600 students across public and private universities
in 2025.
Its latest expansion to polytechnic students reflects a continued effort to broaden access to practical
financial education across different education pathways and support Malaysia’s agenda to develop a
skilled, confident and future-ready workforce.
