About Brighter You

Being a purpose-driven company, Sun Life Malaysia is dedicated to creating meaningful and positive impacts in the communities where we operate.

Our approach is built upon three main pillars of Sun Life’s sustainability plan: increasing financial security, fostering healthier lives, and advancing sustainable investing.

Through the years, we have initiated and supported a diverse range of programmes under the 'Brighter You' philanthropy programme banner which reflects our commitment to uplifting individuals and communities at the same time empowering them to shine brighter in every aspect - financially, mentally, and physically.

In an effort to promote a more sustainable and healthier community, these programmes were carried out in collaboration with community organisations and nonprofits. We also encourage our employees to volunteer their time and talents for these initiatives.

Financial Literacy

We aspire to empower more people to become financially savvy, with a strong focus on enhancing insurance and takaful knowledge for a financially fit future.

Highlights of our key initiatives in 2024:

  • Launched 'Earn.Save.Protect', a financial literacy board game, to teach the basics of saving, earning, and protecting money in a fun, accessible way. We reached over 1,000 students with support from 120 Sun Life Malaysia employee volunteers.
  • Shared practical tips and insights through articles, videos, podcasts, and community events – including an award sponsorship to champion female financial empowerment.

Team Up Against Diabetes

We aspire to slow the advance of diabetes through increasing the awareness of diabetes prevention, management and care. We believe by providing the right knowledge, tools and tips, we can help people take actions to manage and stop diabetes.

Some of our signature programmes:

  • Implemented a nationwide blood glucose screening programme to promote early awareness and prevention of diabetes with over 35,000 Malaysian adults screened since the programme began in 2019.
  • In 2024, we provided health coaching support for 530 participants who undertook screenings, and extended diabetes access to 300 individuals from underserved communities.
  • Reached over 16,000 individuals through the distribution of diabetes care packs since this initiative began in 2021, driving awareness around healthy living, balanced diets, and the importance of regular screenings.

Community Wellness

Being a trusted and responsible business leader, our mission is to be there for our Clients, partners and communities – during both good and challenging times.

Our key community uplifting programmes include:

  • ‘Sun In The City’ Wellness Festival – a vibrant event launched in 2024 to promote balance in mind, body, and finances. The festival registered 350 participants for a day of inspiration, learning, and healthy living.
  • Brighter Wellness Programme, an ongoing awareness and engagement initiative designed to help Malaysians live healthier lives – financially, physically and mentally. Over 1,000 individuals have registered for the activities since the initiative was introduced in 2021.

Inclusion

To build a sustainable future for all, we have taken various actions to foster a culture of inclusion.

  • In 2023, we supported Persons with Learning Disabilities through a collaboration with United Voice. We procured paintings from their artists for our high-performing Sun Life Advisors.

Climate Change

Building climate resilience and conserving the environment is a big part of ensuring a more sustainable future. Our long-term tree planting initiative (2022-2025), #PlantTreePlantHope, aims to promote a greener and more sustainable future.

To date, a total of 2,500 trees have been planted at Sungai Chua Recreational Park, Kampung Sijangkang Recreational Mangrove Forest, Hutan Simpan Kampar Tambahan and Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve, by over 340 participating Sun Life Malaysia employees in collaboration with Yayasan Hijau Malaysia.

This initiative also supports the government’s Greening Malaysia Programme (Program Penghijauan Malaysia) which targets to plant 100 million trees by 2025.
