COVID-19 Special Medical Coverage Campaign

At Sun Life Malaysia, our Clients’ financial and personal wellbeing are always our top priority.  

Facing another rising wave of COVID-19 cases, we are introducing the COVID-19 Special Medical Coverage Campaign (“the Campaign”) to provide continued support to ensure our Clients remain protected – financially, physically and mentally, during these uncertain times.

This COVID-19 Special Medical Coverage Campaign aims to provide financial assistance to cover medically necessary COVID-19 hospital treatment cost for all categories of COVID-19 severity.  The Campaign is subject to the eligibility criteria and terms and conditions set.

It is available from 14 August 2021(1) to all Clients with an eligible inforce Individual Hospitalisation & Surgical (H&S) policy/contract (2) at no additional premium/contribution charge.

Terms and Conditions:
  • Reimbursement for all Reasonable and Customary Charges resulting from medically necessary COVID-19 treatment at any of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) designated hospitals (both government and private);
  • Applicable to all categories of COVID-19 Severity, from Categories 1 to 5 of COVID-19, according to the MOH's categorisation;
  • Applicable to the Life Assured/Person Covered of inforce Individual H&S policies/contracts.  The policy/contract must be inforce at the point of COVID-19 diagnosis and throughout the Life Assured/Person Covered’s hospitalisation period;
  • All medically necessary claims shall be on reimbursement basis;
  • All reimbursement is subject to the terms and conditions of the H&S policy/contract and according to the remaining annual limit, lifetime limit, deductible, and/or maximum amount for each benefit, where applicable;
  • Remaining policy/contract limits will not be affected by any claim from this Campaign;
  • Only one (1) claim is allowed per person;
  • If the H&S policy/contract requires a waiting period, it will remain applicable.  
Notes:
  1. This COVID-19 Special Medical Coverage Campaign is offered by Sun Life Malaysia on a goodwill basis until further notice. Sun Life Malaysia reserves the right to change the Campaign’s terms and conditions and/or withdraw this Campaign at any time, with or without notice.
  2. List of eligible Individual H&S products:
    • Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Rider;
    • Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Plus Rider;
    • Takaful Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Rider;
    • Takaful Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Plus Rider;
    • Prime Medi Care-i;
    • Prime Medi Care Plus-i;
    • Sinar MediXtra;
    • Sun MaxiMed-i;
    • Sun MediMax-i; and
    • Shield Medi Care.

What is the COVID-19 Special Medical Coverage Campaign?
This is a new complimentary COVID-19 support measure by Sun Life Malaysia to provide direct financial aid to Clients affected by the COVID-19 infection.
 
Under this Campaign, Sun Life Malaysia will cover all medically necessary COVID-19 hospitalisation expenses for eligible Clients, strictly on a reimbursement basis, subject to the benefit limits of the Hospitalisation & Surgical (H&S) policy/contract, from 14 August 2021 onwards, until the announcement of the end of this Campaign.
 
The Campaign will also be administered based on the terms and conditions and the eligibility criteria set.

What are the eligible products?
The Campaign is applicable to all Sun Life Malaysia Clients, who are infected with COVID-19, and has an inforce  Hospitalisation and Surgical  (H&S) policy/contract listed below:
  • Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Rider;
  • Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Plus Rider;
  • Takaful Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Rider;
  • Takaful Hospitalisation & Surgical Benefit Plus Rider;
  • Prime Medi Care-i;
  • Prime Medi Care Plus-i;
  • Sinar MediXtra;
  • Sun MaxiMed-i;
  • Sun MediMax-i; and
  • Shield Medi Care.

Do I need to register for this Campaign?
No, registration is not required. However, you need to have an inforce Hospitalisation & Surgical (H&S) policy/contract with Sun Life Malaysia at the point of diagnosis of COVID-19 and throughout the hospitalisation period.

I have earlier submitted a claim under the COVID-19 Medical Assistance Fund. Am I still eligible for this Campaign?
For the same hospitalisation, you may claim either from the COVID-19 Medical Assistance Fund or from the COVID-19 Special Medical Coverage Campaign, subject to the terms and conditions applied.

The initial cause / reason for hospitalisation was due to non COVID-19 related illnesses but later become COVID-19, can I still claim under this Campaign?
Yes, you will be able to claim as long as the Campaign terms and conditions are fulfilled, and the claim is within the terms and conditions of your inforce Hospitalisation & Surgical (H&S) policy/contract.

Can I get a Guarantee Letter for my hospitalisation?
Any medically necessary claim for this Campaign must be on reimbursement basis. Guarantee Letters will not be available.

Will my annual limit decrease after claiming from this Campaign?
No.  The remaining limits of your Hospitalisation & Surgical (H&S) policy / contract will not be affected by any claim from this Campaign.
