Mr Pushpanathan A/L S.A. Kanagarayar, aged 64 is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“MICPA”) and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (“MIA”).
He retired as a partner of Ernst & Young on 31 December 2009. He has more than 39 years of experience in providing advisory, accounting and audit services in the role of a partner-adviser for a large number of clients based in Malaysia and internationally (both private and public corporations) in a variety of industries, including financial services (insurance, banking and unit trust entities), co-operative societies, construction and property development, trading and manufacturing, telecommunication, healthcare, advertising, plantation, poultry, mining, quarry, oil & gas exploration, transportation, hotels, information technology, environmental and statutory bodies. He has also been involved in share valuations of corporations and providing advice to clients on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, takeovers, flotations, investigations and tax planning.
His directorships in other public companies include the Asian Institute of Finance Berhad, Bursa Malaysia Berhad, IJM Corporation Berhad, IJM Plantations Berhad, and as a Council Member of MICPA. He also serves as a member of the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia and as a Trustee of WWF-Malaysia, the Malaysian Branch of the Divine life Society as well as a Director of the Malaysian Community Education Foundation and Avicennia Capital Sdn. Bhd. He chairs a number of Projects and Working Groups for the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (“MASB”), MICPA and MIA. He was the President of MICPA (2012- 2014), the Honorary Secretary of the Financial Reporting Foundation (“FRF”) (2010-2015), a Board Member of the MASB (2009-2015) and a Council Member of MIA (2012-2014). He is the Project Chairman of the Insurance Standards Working Group of MASB on IFRS 4 and also headed the MICPA Working Group, which undertook a revision of the specimen financial statements of Model Insurance Berhad. He served as an inaugural member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC’s) Developing Nations Permanent Taskforce for 2004/2005 and has been actively involved in the National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA), which is jointly organised by MICPA, MIA and Bursa Malaysia, as Chairman of the Adjudication and/or Organising Committees from 2003 to 2009.
